Sumaira Aamer lives and works in Northern Virginia, US. Sumaira got her MFA with honors from Fatima Jinnah Women University in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, in 2002, where she majored in painting. Her education encompassed a diverse array of contemporary and traditional mediums, including traditional and mixed media painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, textile design, and digital art. This multidisciplinary approach has profoundly influenced her practice, enhancing the beauty of expression through innovative integration of mixed mediums. Under the mentorship of renowned Pakistani artist Mansur Rahi, Sumaira honed her craft and developed her distinctive voice.

Sumaira’s artworks are known for her unique storytelling through Contemporary Miniature and Oil painting. With a calculated composition style, she also embraces experimentation in her conceptual pieces, allowing each artwork to narrate a story of its own.

Her deep appreciation for Indo-Persian Miniature Painting, particularly through a contemporary lens, is rooted in her Pakistani heritage. The delicate techniques and intricate details of miniature art allow her to articulate rich narratives, often addressing contemporary, thought-provoking subjects. In her oil paintings, she synthesizes the essence of her subjects with abstraction, employing vivid symbolism, diverse textures, and bold colors. Her inspiration springs from cultural encounters, personal identities, and pressing social discourses.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Sumaira Aamer is a dedicated educationist, teaching at her private studio. For her, preserving and spreading the knowledge of miniature painting—a traditional art form often confined to museum archives in the West—is of utmost importance. Recognizing it as a dying art form, Sumaira feels a deep responsibility to bring this rich practice into the limelight, ensuring it remains appreciated and accessible for future generations. Through her teaching, she not only shares techniques and insights but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance of this ancient art. Her commitment to education empowers her students to explore their creativity while honoring a tradition that has captivated hearts and minds across centuries.

Since her graduation Sumaira has been widely exhibiting on both National and International platforms. Her work is in well-reputed private and corporate collections in Pakistan, Denmark, Italy, Germany, London, Canada, Qatar and US.
